ISLAMABAD: It was a joyous day for art lovers. Holding colours in their hands, people from all age groups inquisitively participated in a workshop to learn the technique of palette knife painting from senior artist Perveen Khan at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Thursday.

A solo exhibition titled Timeless Relics was also later inaugurated by High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan Wendy Gilmour. All those who participated received a certificate of participation from PNCA.

The exhibition was an amalgamation of timeless imagery creatively portrayed on canvas. The show was special as Khan’s works were being presented at PNCA for the very first time. Born in Bombay, Khan received a bachelor’s degree in fine art; as a student, she developed a liking for painting with palette knives and was greatly influenced by impressionists.

She migrated to Pakistan in 1964 after getting married. For years, she attended weekly classes at the Alhamra, located on Mall Road where she was taught by Colin David, Naseem Kazi and Khalid Iqbal. Khan’s first solo exhibition was held in Lahore in 1968, second in Karachi in 1970 and since then, she has been unstoppable.

Organisers of the event said PNCA was dedicated towards promoting Pakistani art, locally and internationally. The council was also committed to promote significant aspects of the country and encouraged community participation in gallery activities and sustainable local arts industry. The exhibition will be on display till Jan 16.
