SWABI: Commuters and public transporters staged a demonstration in Topi Tehsil Headquarters here on Sunday against the closure of CNG stations till January 20 in order to ensure improved gas pressure to the domestic consumers.

The protesters were holding placards inscribed with different slogans condemning closure of CNG stations.

The protest was triggered when a large number of commuters gathered at the main bus stand, but could not find a vehicle to reach their destinations even after wait of several hours.

The agitated commuters were soon joined by the transporters.

The protesters claimed that if it was not possible for the ruling party to run the government affairs, so it should step down.

Speaking on the occasion, the rickshaw transporters association and flying coach transporters association leaders said after the closure of CNG stations they had no option but to park their vehicles as they could not afford running on petrol and diesel.

Ahmad Ali, a student, said he had to appear in a test for job in Oghi, Manshera district, but due to non-availability of public transport he could not go there.

Adnan Khan, a driver, remarked that the situation was turning from bad to worse for both commuters and transporters, and the government should immediately reopen the CNG stations.

The protesters warned that if the government failed to reopen the CNG stations till Monday (today) there would be more such demonstrations.
