KOHAT: A large number of people on Friday placed the body of a young man on the road in front of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital here to protest his death allegedly caused by administration of wrong injection by the health facility’s staff.

The road remained blocked for over an hour as a contingent of police also arrived at the scene to control the angry protesters. The protesters said under-training staff had given the deceased a wrong injection, and asked them to take him to the KDA Teaching Hospital when his condition deteriorated.

A brother of the deceased told SP operations Mr Ziaullah, who also reached the scene, that when they hired an ambulance for shifting him to the KDA hospital, the staff informed them that he had already died.

The protesters demanded registration of murder case against the hospital staff.

The agitators dispersed after the SP assured them that he would himself conduct an inquiry and punish those responsible for the death.

Separately, deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud on Friday ordered deployment of police at the entry and exit points of 10 villages of Ustarzai, Sher Kot and Alizai union councils in the wake of increasing cases of Covid-19 and upcoming Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA).

The order said schools and public transport would remain suspended in the villages. He directed the health authorities to ensure vaccination of people and take steps for contact tracing. He also asked the tehsil municipal administration to conduct disinfectant spray in mosques on daily basis.
