WHEN the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) announced 1,900 posts of lecturers across the province, many jobless graduates got excited. But they did not know their excitement was short-lived.

The commission in its recently-held meeting has agreed to do away with the screening test. It will conduct interviews directly, and merit will be determined on the basis of academic marks.

This decision has left many aspirants worried and stressed as there is a huge disparity in the marking system in universities. One such example is the annual system and semester system; it is difficult to get high marks in the annual system compared to the semester system where students have a chance to get better marks.

Screening test provides equal opportunity to all aspirants to perform at their best. The KPPSC must reconsider its decision and implement normal recruiting process so that the aspirants may start preparing for the screening test instead of worrying about the recruitment process.
