HARIPUR: The police arrested the head of a seminary here for torturing a minor student.

Prayer leader of Alooli Jamia Masjid Qari Khan Mohammad approached the district police officer with a complaint against Rehmania Madrassa head Raja Tahir Mehmood for beating up his 10-year-old son, Muneebur Rehman, with a bamboo stick as a punishment.

He said the torture fractured the right arm of his son, who went to the seminary to learn the Holy Quran by heart. The medical examination confirmed the fracture leading to the cleric’s arrest.

STRIKE:Partial shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed here on Monday against the Lahore police’s action against the activists of the banned Tehreek-i-Labaik Pakistan.

Many shops in the main bazaar and along link roads remained open. The public transport vehicles remained off the road for some time.
