SUKKUR: Three people were killed and four were injured when a rice-laden trailer truck turned on its side, crushing an ambulance and a Qingqi rickshaw under the weight of the rice bags and the heavy vehicle, on main Indus Highway in front of press club in Kashmore on Sunday.

Policemen and citizens standing nearby rushed to rescue the people trapped in the vehicles.

They put the trailer back on its wheels with the help of a crane and shifted all the injured to Kashmore Civil Hospital where doctors declared death of Ms Rani Bugti, Mohammad Ameen Bugti, 10, and Qingqi driver Ghulam Akbar Lanjwani.

Ms Taj Bibi Bugti, Abdul Ghafoor Bugti, Mohammad Nawaz and Huzoor Bux Lohar were found to be seriously injured and were shifted to a Rahim Yar Khan hospital for adequate treatment.

Civil society leaders of Kashmore blamed deteriorated condition of the section of the highway passing through Kashmore town for the accident and said that work on the highway’s repairs had been going on at a snail’s pace for quite some time, leading to such tragedies from time to time.

Meanwhile, the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s president and other office bearers said in a press statement issued here that they were grieved at unabated tragic road accidents in Sangi and Kashmore areas and their hearts went out to the bereaved families.
