KARACHI: A sessions’ court on Saturday reissued warrant for arrest of a suspect absconding in a case pertaining to murder of television anchorperson Mureed Abbas and another person over alleged shady investments worth billions of rupees.

Atif Zaman and his brother Adil have been booked for murdering his business partners Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat in Defence Housing Authority on July 9, 2019.

On Saturday, the matter came up before the additional district and sessions’ judge (South).

The investigation officer informed the judge that suspect Adil Zaman reportedly fled to the “Federally Administered Tribal Area” and police teams were chasing him. He sought more time to arrest the suspect and produce him before the court.

The judge granted four weeks’ time to the IO to arrest alleged suspect Adil Zaman and produce him before the court.

The judge noted that in case the police failed to arrest the absconding suspect, his case will be bifurcated and trial would begin against the detained suspect Atif Zaman from the next hearing.

Atif was arrested soon after the incident while Adil was traced five months later to his native town near Abbottabad.
