DPAC opposes ban on militant outfits

ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: Defence of Pakistan and Afghanistan Council (DPAC) on Sunday alleged that the government had changed its stance on Kashmir after striking a deal with India on the dictation of the US.

Talking to Dawn by telephone, a frontline leader of the council Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi, who is underground since the imposition of ban on some Jehadi outfits and crackdown on religious groups, said the government was scared of making the deal public at the moment and would unveil it with the passage of time.

“The government has no justification to ban Jehadi outfits like Lashkar-i-Taiba and Jaish Muhammad, as they have been fighting for the freedom of Kashmir for a long time,” he said and questioned that “If the president can explain reasons to ban religious sects like TJP and SSP, why did he not give any reason to ban Jehadi outfits in his speech?”

Expressing his displeasure on the way the president delivered the speech, Mr Ghazi said “Though he is a dictator, he should have honoured the decorum of the slot of president and should not have imposed a one-sided decision on the nation.”

He said if any Madrassah was proved to be involved in terrorism, all peace-loving religious sects and Madrassahs administrations would severe their relations with those indulged in terrorism.

Mr Ghazi warned that law and order situation would become worsen after the imposition of ban of religious groups.

He said the president should have convene a meeting of all religious groups to take their leaders into confidence before taking a one-sided decision.
