KHAR: Two persons were killed by unknown gunmen in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur region, officials said on Thursday.

They said that the incident took place in the hilly Shakroo locality late on Wednesday night.

According to the residents, Madar Khan and Gul Mula were on way to home from a nearby area when unknown armed men opened fire on them with automatic rifles.

Both the victims belonged to Shakroo village. The residents said that the two had no personal enmity with anyone in the area.

Scores of residents of the nearby area immediately reached the site of incident, but the attackers had fled by then.

Confirming the incident, officials of the district administration said that a group of Levies personnel were instantly rushed to the site of incident to trace the attackers, but they had escaped from the scene.

About the motive behind the murders, the officials said that cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained. However, he said that the district administration had launched investigation into the incident to trace the killers. No group or individual has for far claimed responsibility for the murders.
