Islamic State kills senior Afghan Taliban official in Pakistan: militants

The militant Islamic State (IS) group killed a senior Afghan Taliban official in Peshawar, the Afghan militants said on Saturday, in a rare clash between the rival Islamist groups inside Pakistan.

Afghan Taliban sources told Reuters Maulvi Daud was killed on the outskirts of Peshawar with two other men on Thursday. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed Daud's death.

The IS on Friday claimed responsibility for "assassination of a Taliban leader" a day earlier, without naming him, through the group's affiliated news agency AMAQ.

The IS, which at one point controlled huge chunks of territory across Syria and Iraq, has made some inroads into Afghanistan but the militant group has met tough resistance from the Taliban as well as US and Afghan special forces.

Afghan Taliban sources said Daud was based in Afghanistan's Logar province but would frequently visit Pakistan.

The militant group does not control any territory inside Pakistan but the group has claimed responsibility for several large-scale bomb attacks.

Pakistan denies IS has any presence inside the country.

Afghan Taliban Leadership is in Pakistan and Pakistani government is rejecting it. This clearly exposes Pakistani government and still Pak Gov is denying it. It's damaging Pakistan's image. For god sake - Take care of Afghan Taliban on your soil before it's too late.

Any short sighted decision to befriend or court any flavor of militant groups for short term geopolitical benefit will eventually backfire and plunge entire region in chaos. Only and only - registered and photographed soldiers in uniform and sworn under the people's constitution of the land should be allowed to hold any weapons. Everyone else should be treated as a militant and future challenge to the state's writ. Please dont make the mistake of believing any group will be good long term for the state. The groups if they see a use and throw policy will turn more vindictive later on. Better to treat them as criminals from day one.

@Sonny afridi well a lot of things have been confirmed but what has Pakistan done ? Sure India maybe involved but Pakistan issues are mostly internal so until we fix our internal issues no matter what you do foreign forces will continue to intervene in Pakistan. Think about it this way : If you keep your doors open without any fly nets then your house will be full of insects and flies and some may be harmful to you.
