CHITRAL: The weeklong youth festival held under the aegis of the poverty reduction project of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme concluded in Drosh town here on Sunday in which hundreds of youth participated in different games.

Deputy Commissioner Chitral Osama Ahmed Warraich gave away prizes to the winning teams on the occasion. He appreciated the event as a healthy source of recreation to harness the potential of sportsmanship of local youth.

He said local youth could rise to the national level if they were provided with opportunities.

He expressed his resolve to patronise the youth in sports activities as he had already planned a number of initiatives to promote sports in the district by utilising the available resources which included improvement of polo grounds and Murad Khan Stadium in Drosh.

Mr Warraich also announced a number of development activities in Drosh town which included establishment of a family park, improvement of town hospital and provision of an ambulance to the health facility.

The team of Phutinian Deh beat the Arian team by one goal in the football final and clinched the trophy, while village council Drosh-I defeated Drosh-II in the tug-of-war competition.
