MADRID: Spanish police arrested a Pakistani man from Barcelona on Tuesday accused of promoting militancy via social media, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The man had been promoting the actions of various militant groups operating in the conflict zones of Syria and Iraq, especially the militant Islamic State group, the ministry said.

Including Tuesday's arrests, Spain has detained 24 people so far this year with suspected links to militancy including 14 people belonging to terror groups allegedly glorifying terror acts on Facebook and Twitter.

Instances of spreading terror messages have been growing in the region where they made comments on fake social network profiles with large numbers of followers that ranged from glorifying the hostile organisations and the murders they carried out to mocking the victims of terrorism.
