ISLAMABAD: Another case was registered against the naib khateeb of Lal Masjid under the amplifier act on Saturday.

Besides, cases were also registered against nine khateebs of different worship places for violating the ban on the use of loudspeakers.

It may be mentioned that a similar case was registered against the Lal Masjid naib khateeb, Maulana Amir Siddiqui, on October 24 but the police never arrested him.

When contacted, a police officer on the condition of anonymity said the authorities concerned had been informed about the two cases registered against the cleric and directives sought for his arrest.

“The police action on the FIR against the Lal Masjid khateeb will depend on the directives,” he added.

Last year, the capital police registered 178 cases over the violation of the ban and booked 216 khateebs between October and December. On the direction of the government, the police arrested 96 persons during the last about three weeks. Besides, 10 khateebs obtained pre-arrest bail while the others went into hiding.

Another police officer said the cases were registered against those khateebs who delivered sermons before Friday prayers.
