Air strikes kill 23 suspected terrorists in North Waziristan

ISLAMABAD: At least 23 suspected terrorists were killed on Monday in precise aerial strikes on terrorists hideouts in the Bangidar area of Ghulam Khan in North Waziristan Agency, said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). However, this information could not be independently verified as the access of media is restricted in the region.

Military operation Zarb-i-Azb was launched by the Pakistan Army on June 15 following a brazen militant attack on Karachi's international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) negotiators.

The Taliban and their ethnic Uzbek allies both claimed responsibility for the attack on Karachi airport, which was seen as a strategic turning point in how Pakistan tackles the insurgency.

Nearly a million people have fled the offensive in North Waziristan, which is aimed at wiping out longstanding militant strongholds in the area, which borders Afghanistan.

North Waziristan has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring agencies and Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (Fata) regions to block any move of terrorists in and out of the Agency.

How long these air strikes will continue which claim to kill thousands of terrorists till date but ground situation has remained either unchanged or in most regions became worse ? The decisive ground operations and holding ground after eliminating terrorists is the only mean to defeat militancy in Pakistan which is yet to start in full swing, for reasons best known to the military.

@Far sight Are you insane? What about 60,000 innocent Pakistanis who have lost their lives and many more who have lost their loved ones? @Last Word Ground troops are deployed. The 160 new IED proof vehicles are also for this purpose and patrolling Afghan Border. Note that military is the only source of info as media is restricted due to security reasons and fear of leaking of Troops location etc.

@Fat Boy Slim - The answer is None. Civilians do not live in caves, rugged mountain tops, crevasses, remote inaccessible areas and on steep slopes where the adjoining facilities are called "Training Camps"... Normal civilians (individual or groups) require access to facilities that terrorists do not care for.

It is interesting how much concerned we are about the "verification" of the reports . Army was criticized by these psedo-intellectuals when there was no operation and it is being criticized when there is an operation going on. Media can not be sent into the area where op. is being carried out because it is not safe to do so for the Media persons . Secondly , the Media , with it's obsession with "breaking news" , is bound to leak out information that would harm the operation itself.
