There is a Youtube video where a young student of Sanskrit in a British school says that he was spiritually inspired. Here in Canada the high school in the town I live in has yoga and meditation classes inspired by Indian culture. Hindu deities sometimes are used as central characters in Japanese anime and in comics in the US! I am glad that such "soft power' is accruing to Indians-Hindus!!!!:):):)

First they appropriated yoga (yeah, I hear there is a christian yoga now), and now this. Welcome to the free world.

I have participated in the event in Abu Dhabi I was really awesome. The color doesn't effect the lungs or the skin as the color used in the event is safe unless you have an allergy. Yes they are inspired by Holi, But that event is nothing to do with any religion. The event says very clear its all for fun no religion no charity.

@John It's mostly colored rice powder. No paint involved.

@John if used with natural ingtrradient this will indeed help but sadly they dont know that they will use artifical thing now in india people have strt useing colour that are made of flower powder etc are used this help.

@Junaid In the old times both Hindu and Muslims of India used to celebrate Holi together. Now it has stopped completely.

they color the road by colored powder, we too color the road on Eid by cattle's blood !!!

@nafees As you say,better to colour the road with coloured rice powder than the blood of innocent animals which clearly feel pain and suffering as they die.This is not religion but spiritual philosophy as expounded not only by the Hindus but those of other faiths. Hindus were great meat eaters once and had numerous internal wars,bloodshed and mayhem.Emperors such as Ashoka were known to be cruel and blood thirsty until they renounced war (he killed his own brothers to grab the throne as Samrat-Emperor-before switching to pacifist Buddhism and adopting a placid diet while openly shunning any type of violence.) You are what you eat ! As to those other meat munching "conquerors"....the Abdalis/Gauris/Durranis.....what became of them and what is their legacy ?? Look at basket case Afghanistan,now taking charity from India,the US and Europe in the form of infrastructure,medicine and even Army Officer training !!!! Do you NOT see the irony ??

Life made colorful, joyful and laughable with this Holi run. Children should be included, they will enjoy much more.Do not dampen spirits by coloring the event with religion.

@Vince everyone is allowed to pay... there r inter-caste marriages ..if you go to offices yu will see them wrking in offices together.... there were chief minister , governor etc who were from lower caste. Its jst the system and people who r responsible to lead it, creates a divide for their vested interest. U seems to be too smart and aware of all the situation bt still wonder whether u really know what the problem is.... The problem is that they blame others and totally stupid reasons for your sufferings....instead of telling real problem

@Vince No Brighton people will clean it up,try it its a real fun,people with skin allergies can use natural color's,now that Indians can provide you,they can teach you how to play Holi and make maximum fun of it.

@John Don't use paint use natural colors.For green use Henna,leaves of Gulmohur (Delonix regia),Red-Sandalwood powder,leaves of The Flame of the Forest (Butea monosperma),For yellow-Flowers of Soak Amaltas (Cassia fistula),turmeric.But most important it need guts to play Holi,just like in riding on a roller coaster ride.When you start it you will start to get enjoy it.

@Vince Some people are suffered from negative racism.Color the whites,color the black's,color the black history,color the world ,color the universe,Make everybody colorful,so there should be no distinction between anybody.To clean up the bad memories of History color them into the color of Equality,color of Brotherhood,color of peace,that's why it is said the best way to correct History is to forget it and enjoy.Make world a colorful and happy place.

@nafees Have you ever seen pumpkins being smashed by Hindus during festivals? Often red "tilak" is smeared inside the pumpkin? That red tilak represents blood and the pumpkin is a substitute for an animal? Over generations horse sacrifice and goat sacrifice during yagnas gave way to pumpkin" sacrifice"? There is no such thing as christian Yoga or secular Yoga, you either believe Karmic principles (Hindu,Buddhist, Jain and Sikh) or you don't.

These event are organised all over the world, without any discrimination. You just have to pay some entry fees. I participated this event in Abu Dhabi with American, European, Arabs, Asian all together.

@Vince: Playing Holi from 33 years with every body in area. Never even heard in remote areas that lower caste can not play with upper one. Where did you get this idea from?

Here in the US we just call it a "color run" There is no inspiration from Holi.

@Vince ...Not sure which country you belong to but...its like people of the world saying constantly White people treating people of African (black) decent as slaves even now. Yes there was a caste system in India umpteen years ago....yes there were/are incidents of mistreating lower caste people by upper caste people just like blacks /Jews/Sikhs /Ahmadis /Shiites etc. are treated badly in different parts of the world. Doesn't mean these are constant happening events. Present India you wouldn't know who is who. Present India, everybody (including me) would love to be a Dalit. You are given everything on a silver plate. Nobody in the world does more for their minorities than India. What do African American in US have? Do they get 50% reservation in any Job or admissions? Stop saying Dalit are treated badly in India. Know the truth.

@colin Come on Colin be normal. We all need to eat and if you are a vegy then thats quite alright by me as far as you are OK with me eating non veg. I think humans should matter more than animals but obviously you would think otherwise. Depends how far you want to go because after all plants are also living things and then you have milk, honey, eggs, fish etc. so where do you stop. I think live and let live as far as we look after each other and the environment then that should be all good.
