LAHORE/MULTAN, July 20 Senior leader of PML-N Javed Hashmi who suffered a brain haemorrhage on Tuesday morning was flown from Multan's Nishtar Hospital to Lahore General Hospital by a special helicopter for treatment.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and other party leaders were present at the airport when the helicopter landed and accompanied Mr Hashmi's ambulance to the hospital, where doctors termed his condition “out of danger”.

Medical Superintendent Dr Salahuddin said Mr Hashmi did not need surgery and that his condition would improve within 72 hours as a five-member medical panel would be supervising his treatment.

He said Mr Hashmi was conscious, although he could not speak. Various tests were being conducted to ascertain the causes of the haemorrhage and the likely damage it had caused. A member of the medical board said a 2.5cm- to 3.5cm-long vein in the patient's brain had been damaged, but the situation was well under control.
