LARKANA, Aug 4 Taluka Nazim of Larkana Qurban Abbasi has expressed dissatisfaction over the development work being carried out in Larkana in a haphazard manner and without taking into confidence all stakeholders.

Talking to journalist in his office on Tuesday, he said that the element of coordination lacked among the stakeholders. It resulted into what he called the 'waste of huge money' sanctioned by both federal and provincial governments. He said instead of kicking-off entire development works simultaneously, they should have been initiated in phases as had been laid down in the original plan. It had not only delayed the plan, but the people who matter, had expressing dissatisfaction over the pace and transparency of the work

He said without taking into confidence the Taluka Municipal Administration how could one ensure transparency. The taluka nazim had never been called to attend any meeting regarding the development schemes, he said.

The Asian Development Bank, he added, had identified six talukas, including Larkana for initiating Solid Waste Projects at a cost of Rs18 billion. Share of Larkana, as per plan, is Rs1.5 billion in the current financial year. Under the project, over 100 new disposal stations, applying modern technology, would be established in the taluka. He said the experts of ADB would hold meeting in this connection in the last week of August.

He regretted that the District Coordination Officer Larkana had ceased the bank accounts of the Taluka Municipal Administration. It had embarrassed the TMA's position which has compelled that sanitation staff to suspend their work which has generated insanitation in the city. He sought an urgent grant of Rs2 billion in the shape of loaders, dumpers, fire brigade vehicles and machinery to effectively address the issues of sanitation, lighting and improving other essential infrastructural facilities in the city and its surroundings.

He appealed to President Asif Zardari and the Sindh chief minister to take on board all stakeholders while ordering development works in Larkana.
