KARACHI, June 30 Local coach Ejaz Sarhadi on Tuesday annexed the 40-plus singles title by inflicting a straight sets defeat on Akbar Hayat Khan in the final of National Seniors Tennis Championship at the Karachi Club.

Ejaz, winner of 35-plus singles title at Quetta last year, was convincing in his 6-1, 6-3 victory over his opponent.

Earlier, the eventual champion came from the jaws of defeat to turn the tables on fighting Syed Qutub in three agonising sets semi-final on Monday night. Final scores were 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3.

Ejaz is on course for a double crown as together with Zahid Hussain the pair has made it to the 40-plus doubles final. They will be up against the winner of Ilyas and Tariq Aziz and Altaf Hussain and Idrees Kodvavi.

Meanwhile, the pair of Akbar Pisnani and Zakaria Ali Mohammad won the 60 plus doubles crown. The duo remained unbeaten in the league which was played due to fewer entries. The combination of Gulzar Firoz and Shahid finished runners-up.

The two pre-finals of 50 plus doubles event were in progress at the time of filing this piece. The championship concludes on Wednesday.
