MUZAFFARGARH: A married woman was set ablaze after she foiled an alleged rape bid on Sunday in Qalanarwala near Chowk Qureshi, some 30-km from here.

Police quoting victim Nagina said an unidentified suspect tried to rape her when she was asleep in the afternoon.

On resistance, he sprinkled oil on her, set the woman ablaze and managed his escape.

She was referred to Nishtar Hospital, Multan, from DHQ Hospital. Doctors said the woman suffered 30 per cent burns.

Chowk Qureshi police have registered a case under 7 ATA and are looking for the suspect.

Her family members said the woman along with her husband Ismail had visited her parents from Shujaabad three days ago. Police are interrogating Ismail who came to take her back on Sunday.
