ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army’s stay in the capital city has been extended for three months, Deputy Commissioner Capt Mushtaq Ahmed told Dawn on Wednesday.

Over two companies of 111 Brigade have been present in the capital city since May 2014. They were deployed by the capital administration keeping in view the expected retaliation to operation in North Waziristan.

ICT admin made the requisition under Section 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, which says, “Any police officer, or member of the armed forces, or civil armed forces, who is present or deployed in any area, after giving sufficient warning, use the necessary force to prevent the commission of terrorist acts or scheduled offences, and, in doing so, an officer of the armed forces or civil armed forces shall exercise all the powers of a police officer under the code.”

ICT admin had sent the fresh requisition on October 9.
