KARACHI: Former Pakis­tan all-rounder Hasan Jamil, who died after sudden cardiac arrest, was laid to rest at the Model Colony Graveyard here on Wednesday.

He was 63 and left behind a widow and two daughters.

Hasan played six One-day Internationals for Pakistan, scoring 111 runs and taking eight wickets.

He made his international debut against England at the Zafar Ali Stadium in Sahiwal on Dec 23, 1977 in the presence of cricketers like Javed Miandad, Mudassar Nazar, Sadiq Mohammad and Wasim Raja under the leadership of wicket-keeper Wasim Bari.

He was also a part of Asif Iqbal’s 1979 World Cup squad but did not play a single match. The former all-rounder also served as a member of the national selection committee.

In his overall first-class career, Hasan scored 4,230 runs with four centuries and took 204 wickets with his left-arm pace bowling.

After retiring from PIA, he was working as general manager cricket at the Arabian Sea Country Club.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan in a statement said, “The entire PCB management and the country’s cricket fraternity are deeply saddened at his demise.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of sorrow. May Allah give his family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”

Former Test cricketer and chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed in his condolence message said, “Hasan Jamil was a thorough gentleman and a dear brother to me. His death was shocking.”

PCB Executive Committee chairman Najam Sethi, former Test opener Sadiq Moham­mad and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed also expressed their condolences.

Hasan’s funeral was attended by former chief executive of the PCB Arif Abbasi, former Test cricketers Iqbal Qasim and Shoaib Mohammad, ex-KCCA chief Siraj Bukhari, Saeed Azad and a large number of first-class cricketers, KCCA officials, friends and relatives.

His Soyem will be held on Friday (Oct 9) after Asr prayers.
