LAHORE: Mohammad Abid will face Heera Ashiq in the final of the third Long Beach Punjab Open Tennis Championship after both won their respective semi-finals at the Bagh-i-Jinnah courts here on Thursday.

Abid proved too good for Saif Ali as the former won the first semi-final quite easily 6-4, 6-0.

However, in the other last-four clash, Heera was stretched to three sets by Usman Rafiq before the former claimed the match 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

After losing the first set, Usman showed his class in the second set but he failed to maintain his fighting spirit in the third set as Heera comprehensively won the decisive set and with it the ticket for Friday’s final.

Meanwhile, in the U-18 category, Hafiz Arbab Ali and Mohammad Said qualified for the final.

Arbab toppled Omer Hayat 6-4, 6-4 while Mohammad Said carved out a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Humbal.

Nalain Abbas and Abdullah Adnan marched into the U-14 final. Nalain beat Ahmed Kamil 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 as the match produced an interesting tussle. Abdullah, however, remained easy winner against Said 6-2, 6-1.

In the U-12 class, Abdullah and Ahmed Kamil reached the decider Abdullah defeated Usman Nasarullah 6-0, 6-2 while Ahmed blanked Abdul Hannan Khan 6-0, 6-1.
