Malala's citizenship ceremony rescheduled following Ottawa attack

OTTAWA: The ceremony scheduled to bestow honorary Canadian citizenship on Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousufzai was rescheduled after an attack in Ottawa on Wednesday left a soldier dead, the office of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said.

The lone gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau who shot the Canadian soldier had attempted to storm the national parliament but was instead gunned down by the assembly's sergeant-at-arms.

Malala won the Nobel earlier this month, following which Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had declared that she would be granted citizenship of his country.

Malala was scheduled to be in Ottawa on October 22 where she was to be granted honorary citizenship of Canada. She is the sixth person to receive honorary Canadian citizenship. Other recipients of honorary Canadian citizenship are Raoul Wallenberg, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Aung San Suu Kyi and Karim Agha Khan IV.

Malala is not sole victim of terrorism.. great many died, burned and beaten; but the survivors never had sympathy like Malala.. The question is what is the especialtiy of boosting her to the extereme level globally. ..... . The fact is she is being prepared to work with the foreign agenda, the international agencies in their own interest against pakistan, and in the race different countries have placed their pace..

Honorable Canadian High Commissioner Islamabad For Visitors, Students, Federal Skilled Workers, Provincial Nominees and Investors Canadian Government has programs and these are getting tougher day by day. Asylum cases too have the most toughest requirements. Besides, Malala thousands of people in Pakistan being terrorized / persecuted every day including Doctor, Lawyers, Business people and other Professionals. My question is how many of those are entitled for Canadian citizenship?

not a single person i knw has a sympathetic view on the malala issue. and they are not illiterate tribals or jihadis. i dont knw , but this small clique of self declared liberals ( for whom liberalism is essentially more permissive life style choices and not a change in status quo of entrenched power relations) is in thrall of celebrating the mallala phenomena. pakistanis do not own malalla . its not that they dont want girls to be educated or are in favour of kids being shot in the neck for going to school, its the way she has been projected the selective issues she articulates and the base she identifies with . i only have sympathy for the poor girl paraded around and saying accepted cliches.

@Danish Haider Canadian citizenship is earned by having millions in the bank or getting Nobel prize or becoming exceptional. Canada doenst need more taxi drivers in their country.

Long back i had seen a video of this brave gal on Youtube where she and her father was fighting with taliban for education! I was amazed to see that... But later i heard that she was shot in head by talibs, But still she dared to stand for Childrens Education is a Sheer act of Greatness...A Big Salute Malala... God Bless You..

Malala is the single most concern for western world and their stooges in Pakistan. Millions are dying here and there on daily basis. and nobody is worried. is anyone , other than Malala , can be treated like stray cat , who dies on the street and nobody cares? So much for liberalism .

Ask yourself why every country in SE Asia has progressed (including now Myanmar) but Pakistan is steadily sliding backwards .... Foreign agents? ... you must be joking!!

@Arisha G The reason it was cancelled was that PM Harper had to bestow the citizenship. But he had to remain in Ottawa because of terrorist incident. He could not travel to Toronto.
