Pakistanis arrested in Thailand over passport theft

BANGKOK: Thai officials say they have arrested two Pakistanis accused of forging passports that were allegedly used by transnational crime networks.

Department of Special Investigation chief Chatchawal Suksomjit said officials found fake and stolen passports, visa stamps and other documents for more than 40 countries during raids last Saturday.

He said Friday that two Pakistani men and two Thai women were arrested during the raids at a condominium and a restaurant in Bangkok.

Chatchawal said Thai officials received a tip-off about the syndicate from their Australian counterparts.

Authorities say passport theft and forgery is a critical problem in Thailand. The issue was highlighted when two passengers on a Malaysian jetliner that went missing on March 8 were found to be traveling with stolen passports obtained from a Thai resort island.

Another disgraceful incident involving Pakistanis. I hope they are given the maximum punishment possible under the Thai law and then punished by Pakistan authorities for bringing such bad name to the country.

What a shame for Pakistan nation as a whole because none but two Pakistanis are arrested by police in Bangkok, Thailand involved in dealing with fake and stolen passports. This is not the 1st time that Pakistanis are found to be involved in such like nefarious activities but time and again we are labeled alike and I wonder why and how only Pakistanis are involved in it. What pains me the most is that anyone involved in such activities are not punished so severely that others many not even think of indulging in cheating and fraudulent activities. Irony of the fact is that we damn care about country's defamation caused by such individuals. They will be punished by Thailand but if and when they are deported to Pakistan and if they are influential ones or bribe the concerned authorities they are not likely to be punished here. History shows that on many an occasion we hear arrest of people involved in human trafficking and in forgery of passports / currency notes etc but thereafter we never...never hear of subsequent developments in the case.

Be assured they will get their punishment. Thai courts are not like Pakistani courts where justice can be bought. The 'free' judiciary of Pakistan punishes only the poor for petty crimes; all big criminals are let free ALWAYS.
