Akram Ullah, the current owner of Dilip Kumar’s ancestral home in Peshawar, has demanded Rs80 million to sell the four-marla house, after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently declared it a national heritage.

Dilip Kumar's Peshawar home declared national heritage

According to Hindustan Times, an official of the KP Culture Department had informed that the provincial government wanted to buy and reconstruct the house, even before the Prime Minister’s declaration.

The official further added that Ullah had initially demanded Rs35 million, but after the declaration, he went for an unreasonable Rs80 million, at which the provincial government, that had offered only Rs20 million, warned him that they could just take the property by law as it was already declared to be a national heritage.

Proposal to convert Dilip Kumar’s house into national heritage termed ‘unfeasible’

Shakeel Waheed Ullah, secretary general of Cultural Heritage Council, revealed that Akram is a legal owner of this house. However, after the 18th Amendment, acquiring the house was the responsibility of the provincial government and should be taken at the earliest since the residence was in a deplorable condition and could collapse any time.

PM Nawaz Sharif declared Dilip Kumar’s house as a national heritage last week and sent a summary to the information ministry, directing them to acquire the house as soon as possible.
