BANNU:The proscribed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant outfit claimed responsibility for Sunday's bomb attack near an election rally in Bannu and for Saturday's suicide attack in Mardan which had claimed the life of a policeman.

Talking to Dawn.com TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said that the banned organisation was behind the remote controlled bomb attack in Bannu which had targeted a leader associated with the Awami National Party (ANP).

An explosion in the Jani Khel area of Bannu District on Sunday killed two people and injured eight people including the independent leader, associated ANP in the past.

Local political administration officials told Dawn.com that at least two persons had died whereas eight others were injured in the blast targeting a convoy of Adnan Wazir, former member of provincial assembly belonging to the ANP,  in the FR Jani Khel area of the district where an election rally was organised.

The leader on his way from the venue of the rally to a private prize distribution ceremony when the attack took place.

Police officials confirmed that the attack was conducted using a remotely detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The casualties were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu where the condition of two wounded was reported as critical.

Two policemen and the candidate from PK-72 Malik Adnan Wazir were among the injured.
