Branded clothes

Published December 5, 2012

THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Branded clothes: a symbol of pride?’ (Nov 16) by Rimsha Ahmad. It is obvious that imported brands are affordable to only a few in our country.

However, the local brands should be affordable to promote the local industry which is totally contrary at present. Interestingly, some local brands are much more expensive than foreign ones.

Take an example of dress shirts or other garments. The local brands charge you more for a shirt with not as premium quality as would be provided by the imported brand.

Brand buying or wearing satisfaction or pride stays aside. The same scenario holds true for different commodities in Pakistan. One can take the example of automobiles to anything. The imported items give you quality plus brand name, whereas the local production is highly questionable. Our policymakers should also ponder improving the local industry.
