KARACHI: A 4-magnitude earthquake jolted several areas of the city in the small hours of Saturday morning, creating fear among residents.

No reports of casualties or damage, however, were reported.

The data released by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Pakistan Meteorological Department, showed that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicenter about 100kms south of Karachi, off the coast of Pakistan.

Officials stated that tremors were felt in areas including Korangi, Malir and Landhi.

It might be recalled that the city has seen multiple low to moderate intensity earthquakes in recent months.

According to experts, while such seismic activities helped release tectonic stress, they should serve as a wake-up call for authorities, given Karachi’s high vulnerability to major earthquakes.
