BAHAWALPUR: Lodhran Additional District and Sessions Judge Hafiz Abdul Hameed handed down 25-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs800,000 to a drug peddler.

According to the prosecution, the Saddar Lodhran police arrested Allah Bakhsh on Oct 25, 2024 and recovered 10.82 kg of hashish (charas) from his possession.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs800,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of simple imprisonment.In another case, AD&SJ Muhammad Ayyaz sentenced Muhammad Faraz (alias Sarfraz) to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for a violent attack on a woman in Basti Mianpur Matim.

In 2024, the convict entered the victim’s home while she was alone, attempted to sexually assault her, and tried to strangulate her when she resisted.

Faraz attacked the victim with a cleaver, causing serious head injuries that rendered her unconscious.

Following a complaint by the victim ‘S’, the Gailiwal police registered a first information report under sections 376, 324, 511, 452, and 337-A of the Pakistan Penal Code. Faraz was awarded 10-year RI and a fine of Rs150,000. The court ordered that Rs 25,000 of the fine be paid directly to the victim. If the fine is not paid, the convict will serve an additional six months in prison.

ADDICTS: Four addicts on Monday night quarrelled at village 267/EB in the limits of Gaggo Mandi police station, Vehari, where three of them allegedly attacked the other and killed him.

According to police sources, suspect Afzal Gujjar accompanied by Tariq, Javed and deceased Ghulam Rabbani alias Javed were present at the house of Afzal Gujjar, where they quarrelled. Deceased Rabbani’s brother Arshad Mahmood in his FIR alleged that the suspects called brother Rabbani to their house where they allegedly killed him over some money matter. Police reached the scene, shifted the body to hospital for postmortem examination and arrested Afzal Gujjar while others are yet to be arrested.

PRANK CALLS: Rescue 1122 in Lodhran during the month of February received 5,378 false and bogus telephone calls out of total 12,100 emergency calls.

According to media coordinator Muhammad Safdar, this hampered the emergency work of the rescuers and police was moved for action.

Besides, he said there were total 3,676 medical emergencies during the period and 4,713 affected people were rescued.
