LAKKI MARWAT: A police officer, who was critically injured in a gunfight with outlaws in Tajori town of Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

An official said that a party of Tajori police station led by SHO Jameel Khan raided a hideout in the town following information that wanted criminals were hiding there.

“On noticing police in the locality, the outlaws opened fire, leaving SHO Jameel Khan critically injured,” he said, adding that though police returned the fire effectively the outlaws managed to flee the place.

The official said that the wounded police officer was moved to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tajazai, wherefrom he was referred to the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu for better treatment.

Bannu police chief Sajjad Khan enquired after the injured police officer and directed the hospital management to ensure provision of quality and standard treatment to him.

The official said the injured SHO later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.

Meanwhile, the police repulsed a terrorist attack on the Shahtora police post in Serai Naurang town of Lakki Marwat on Monday night.

A police official said around 15 terrorists launched the overnight attack but the cops deployed at the police post successfully foiled it.

He said that the policemen noticed the movement of militants with the help of thermal cameras and they responded effectively.

“The assailants used light and heavy weapons but they could not succeed in breaching the police post building,” he claimed, adding that a vigorous action by police forced the terrorists to flee.

It was the second attack on police installations during the last three days. On Saturday night, police had repelled a terrorist attack on Serai Gambila police station.
