LAKKI MARWAT: Several facilitators of terrorists were arrested during a clean-up operation here on Thursday.

“The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police jointly conducted the operation on the instructions of Regional Police Officer Bannu Sajjad Khan and DPO Lakki Marwat Nazir Khan, following credible information about the presence of Khwarij in the area,” said the district police’s spokesman Hassan.

He said the police personnel from Tajori, Bragi and Shaheed Asmatullah Khan police stations along with CTD, and rapid response force (RRF) commandos took part in the day-long offensive.

“The Naurang Circle Sub Divisional Police Officer Saeed Khan and CTD DSP commanded the operation wherein the law enforcers destroyed the hideouts of terrorists in remote rural parts of the district,” he said.

Though the official did not disclose the exact number of arrests, he said the law enforcement personnel captured several facilitators of the Khwarij and seized arms and ammunition from them.

DPO Nazir told Dawn that police were fully alert and vigilant to maintain law and order and protect people’s lives and properties. He said all attempts of terrorists to execute their nefarious plans would be thwarted with full force.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Tuesday, the CTD and police had killed two terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in the Mamakhel Havaid area of Bannu district.

Separately, the terrorists had killed a former police official Abid Khan and threw his body in the Daud Shah area on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, several Afghan families left Karak for their homeland on Thursday.

The district administration had arranged a dignified departure of families comprising 31 Afghan nationals, said an official.

He said additional DC Sahibzada Samiullah bid farewell to the families to go to Afghanistan via Torkham crossing point. Additional DC relief and human rights Muhammad Saood Orakzai was also present.

Sahibzada Samiullah said on the occasion that the district administration had ensured availability of trucks for the departing families.

“This initiative reflects the commitment of the district administration to ensure repatriation of Afghan families to their own country in a dignified manner,” he maintained.
