KARACHI: A cloth merchant was shot dead in Orangi Town on Monday, police said.

They added that Naeem Bashir, 40, had dropped his son at a private school near Shadab Ground on a motorbike and when he was returning armed motorcyclists fired at him and rode away. He sustained three bullet wounds in the temple, neck and chest and died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The victim had a cloth shop in Banaras market.

The officer suspected some personal enmity behind the incident as assailants did not take away any valuable from him.

Woman goes ‘missing’ in Clifton

A young woman has gone “missing” from a Clifton hospital, it emerged on Monday.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said the woman had gone to a private hospital in Clifton for treatment, from where she went “missing”, and her husband subsequently lodged an FIR. He added that concerted efforts were under way to recover her safely.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Pir Husain Ali, stated that he lives in DHA Phase-VI and works as a government contractor. His wife, Alizay, 26, had gone to the private hospital in Clifton for treatment on August 15, accompanied by their driver and maid.

At around 2:30pm the same day, the complainant said, his driver Riaz informed him by phone that Alizay had gone to a medical store to purchase medicines but had not returned. He said he rushed to the hospital, where the administration informed him that his wife had left the premises after a medical check-up.

“I searched on my own but could not find my wife,” the complainant said, adding that unidentified person(s) had kidnapped her for ulterior motives.

Boat Basin police have registered a case under Section 496-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
