RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Friday carried out a targeted operation against violations of dengue SOPs, sealing seven illegal constructions on Girja Road, Rawalpindi.

During the operation, five buildings found in breach of established dengue prevention guidelines were sealed to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

The enforcement squad also took strict action against illegal construction activities, sealing two under-construction buildings on Girja Road.

The action was taken under the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2021, which the property owners had violated by building without the necessary approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

According to officials, the RDA continues its efforts to enforce health and safety standards, ensuring that all construction sites and buildings comply with regulations designed to protect public health.

RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza reaffirmed the authority’s action, stating that there would be zero compromise on the safety and well-being of residents. She stressed that compliance with dengue SOPs is mandatory and that strict action will be taken against violators.

The RDA urged all property owners, builders, and residents to follow the necessary precautions and cooperate with the authority to prevent the spread of dengue in the region.

She added that the actions were taken on the direct instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who has mandated a zero-tolerance policy on encroachments and illegal developments.

The RDA also called on the public to cooperate in maintaining encroachment-free areas and contribute to making Rawalpindi’s streets safer, more accessible, and free of unnecessary congestion.
