PESHAWAR: The police have finalised a special security and traffic plan for the provincial capital on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

Under the plan, more than 4,000 police officers and personnel will perform security and traffic duties during Eid days, according to an official statement.

It added that leaves of the personnel had been canceled to ensure law and order in the city.

The police said the number of Ababeel Squad and City Patrol Force, along with traffic police and local police mobile patrols had been increased in the city, and surveillance of all entrance and exit routes of the city had been enhanced.

They said additional personnel, including women, were deputed in all important markets, while personnel in plain clothes were deployed to keep a close eye on suspicious persons in the city.

The police said the bomb disposal squad, the city patrol force and police armoured vehicles would patrol the densely populated markets of the city. The police have adopted security measures at cattle markets as well.

Also, strict monitoring of inns and hotels is being carried out and are kept under observation, according to the statement.

It added that information-based special targeted search and strike operations were carried out in the provincial capital before Eid.

“Police personnel will be deployed to provide foolproof security to Eidgahs and all sensitive mosques of the city,” read the statement.

It added that under the security plan issued by the capital city police, additional personnel would be deployed around various roads and markets to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

“Around 1,000 traffic police officers and officials will be on duty during Eid days.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Bacha Khan International Airport Peshawar have urged people not to dump the waste of sacrificial animals around the facility warning such acts could cause air accidents.

Officials said offal always attracted birds, so there were possibilities of bird strikes, which could cause deadly air accidents.

They said the Civil Aviation Authority held a meeting with locals and sensitised them to the gravity of the issue.

“We have distributed pamphlets among local residents and have also displayed banners so that people could understand how serious this issue is,” BKIA deputy terminal manager Rehmatullah told Dawn.

Also, spokesperson for the district administration Sajjad Khan said that the administration imposed a ban on dumping of animal waste around the airport.

He said a video message about it had been shared on social media to sensitize people.

The district administration informed people that the animal waste attracted birds, causing accidents during passenger and fighter jet landing and takeoffs.

On Monday, officials from the Pakistan Airport Authority met with CAA representatives at the BKIA and decided about launching running campaigns to protect aircraft from bird strikes.

The PAA officials met officials from Peshawar Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar, district administration and other agencies.

The participants decided to keep areas around the airport clean to prevent any untoward incident.
