MANSEHRA: A woman, who had got married on her own free will some four years ago, was brutally killed along with her three-year-old daughter in Pulrah area here on Tuesday, the police said.

“We have deployed a heavy contingent of police to arrest the accused, who managed to flee following the incident, as four people have already been killed in the name of honour in this case,” Shafiullah Khan Gandapur, the district police officer, told reporters.

The accused barged into the house of Roshan Lal and fired indiscriminately, leaving his wife and daughter dead on the spot, and then managed to flee.

The police shifted the bodies to the Pulrah Civil Hospital, and handed them over to the family after doctors completed medico-legal formalities.

The slain woman, according to the police, had got a court marriage with Roshan Lal, going against her parents in 2021, which developed enmity between both the families.

“Four people have already been killed on both sides during that enmity, and now accused eliminated the woman and her daughter for honour,” Mr Gandapur said.

He said Roshan Lal, whose wife and daughter were killed, was wanted by the police in the murder of his cousins earlier this year.

“The accused, knowing that Roshan Lal was not present at home, barged into his residence and killed his wife and minor daughter. A police party led by DSP Oghi is behind them in the mountainous Nullah village in Tanawal,” Mr Gandapur said.

The DPO said that he was optimistic that all those accused on the run would shortly be arrested and brought to justice.

The Pulrah police, after lodging the FIR, started an investigation.
