MIRAMSHAH, May 1: Local Taliban commanders announced a complete ceasefire till May 11 in the North and South Waziristan agencies on Monday three days ahead of Tablighi congregation here, sources said.

They said that the announcement was made after a meeting between organisers of the congregation and Taliban commanders. The meeting was held at an undisclosed location in the volatile North Waziristan Agency on Monday. Names of participants of the meeting could not be ascertained.

However, a source said that local Taliban commanders had assured organisers that they would suspend their activities till May 11.

The sources said that one million faithful from across the country were expected to attend the annual congregation.
