KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to establish 3,000 centres of non-formal education in order to develop a mechanism to tackle the problem of out-of-school children.

The plan was shared by Sindh Education and Mineral Development Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah while addressing an event held in a local hotel on Sunday in connection with World Literacy Day. The event titled “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace” was organised by the Directorate of Literacy and Non-Formal Education.

The minister said that there was a need to further activate the non-formal education mechanism to ensure that out-of-school children in Sindh not only completed their education, but also gained skills.

In this regard, 100 non-formal education centres are being established in each district, he said.

“In the first phase, the 3,000 centres will provide both education and vocational training to children who have dropped out of school.”
