PESHAWAR: The Indonesian government has offered to construct a park and also renovate the historical Sukarno Square in the provincial capital.

An Indonesian delegation led by head of the chancellery Ferry J Murdiansyah met Peshawar division commissioner Riaz Mehsud, according to a statement issued here on Friday.

The Sukarno Square — which is located in the historical Khyber Bazaar, was named after Dr Ahmad Sukarno, former president of the Republic of Indonesia, in 1974 by then prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

The Indonesian delegates along with the project engineer for the uplift programme of the provincial capital also visited the park and discussed the initial homework.

Earlier, a similar delegation from the Indonesian embassy in Islamabad visited the provincial capital and invited Peshawar’s businessmen to attend a global exhibition scheduled for next month in the country.

The delegation, according to former minister for industry and commerce Mohammad Adnan Jalil, held meetings with members of the business community.

Mr Jalil said the delegation asked the business community from Peshawar to set up their stalls in the exhibition.
