LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday disposed of a petition by Bushra Bibi, the jailed wife of incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, after the government filed a report of the cases or inquiries pending against her.

The report revealed that the petitioner faces a dozen police FIRs and one case by the Anti-Corruption Establishment. It said no inquiry was pending with the FIA cybercrime wing against the petitioner.

The petitioner’s counsel stated that the government did not provide correct information as previously there were a total of 11 cases against his client.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh observed that the required details had been submitted by the government and now the petitioner should approach the relevant forums. The judge disposed of the petition.

In the petition, Bushra Bibi pointed out that she is the wife of the former prime minister and a housewife, having no involvement in political matters.

She said despite her lack of involvement in political affairs, cases have been registered against her on political grounds as part of victimisation.

She expressed concern that inquiries and cases had been initiated against her, but no information was being provided about them.

The petitioner pleaded that details of the initiated inquiries and FIRs be provided and that she be prevented from being arrested in any new case or inquiry.

remand extended: An anti-terrorism court on Friday extended the physical remand of a woman suspect, Amina Arooj, in the honey-trap case involving playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar.

Initially the police presented the suspect before a judicial magistrate on expiry of her previous remand, but later produced her before the ATC following the addition of section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 in the FIR.

The suspect lady alleged before the ATC that Qamar was blackmailing her to establish a relationship. She claimed that the playwright used her video to blackmail her into a relationship and offered her roles in acting and modeling as an incentive.

The police asked the court to extend the physical remand of the suspect for further investigation.

The court accepted the request, granting a four-day physical remand of the suspect and ordered the police to present her again on July 30.

sent to jail: A judicial magistrate on Friday denied police physical remand of PTI activist Aneela Riaz alias Neeli Pari and sent her to jail on judicial remand in a case of assaulting a PML-N leader outside the Punjab Assembly.

The police presented Ms Riaz in the court and sought her physical remand.

However, the magistrate rejected the police’s request for physical remand and sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand.

The woman activist has been accused of allegedly assaulting actor Tahir Anjum, who is a leader of the PML-N cultural wing.

Qila Gujjar Singh police had registered the FIR.
