KOHAT: The SHO of the Hangu city police station, his gunman, and a passerby were injured when two motorcyclists opened fire at their vehicle in Umerabad area on Sunday.

A suspected attacker was also injured when the police returned the fire.

According to an FIR, SHO Nabi Rehman and constable Mohammad Younis were on a routine patrol when they came under attack. They returned the fire.

A passerby, identified as Mohammad Sohail, and one of the attackers, were injured in the exchange of fire. The attackers, however, escaped.

District police officer Mohammad Khalid Khan reached the spot along with a huge contingent of police. A search operation was launched to trace the attackers.

A police official said that the SHO received a bullet in his shoulder, while the constable in his leg. He said that they had been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The police said that an FIR had been registered against the suspected militants under the section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, and sections 324, 353, 427, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
