ISLAMABAD: Capital police have deputed 550 officials to ensure smooth flow of traffic on Independence Day (today) and over 1,500 police officers have been assigned the duty of maintaining peace and order.

Following the special directions of Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, in preparation for the Independence Day celebrations, the police have rolled out a comprehensive security and traffic plan to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens, a police public relations officer said.

ICCPO Dr Akbar Nasir Khan expressed the commitment of the capital police to ensuring the highest standards of safety and order during this important national occasion.

”Senior officers will be actively present in the field, overseeing law enforcement and traffic management operations,” he stated. In order to prevent any disturbances in the celebrations, special pickets will be established and heightened security will be maintained in key areas.

As part of the proactive security measures, specialised units including the CTD commandos, Dolphin force will conduct mobile patrols to ensure safety of citizens and visitors. Additionally, special teams have been deployed to patrol parks and public spaces to create a secure environment for families.

CPO/DIG Operations Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari said the capital police was unwavering in its commitment to curb lawlessness and criminal activities. Stringent actions will be taken against those attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the city.

”We will not tolerate any violation of law and order at any point. Swift and effective measures will be taken against lawbreakers,” he said, adding that citizens have also been requested to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activity at the nearest police stations or ‘Pukar 15’ helpline.
