BAHAWALPUR: A pedestrian was killed while five other people, including four labourers, were injured in wall collapse and other incidents in Lodhran and Bahawalpur on Saturday.

According to Rescue 1122, Shafeh, 75, was going on foot when he was hit by a motorcycle near Khanewal crossing in Lodhran. He died before any medical treatment. His body was shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

The Lodhran city police registered a case against unidentified biker.

Four labourers – Shoaib, Nadeem, Waris and Aslam – suffered serious injuries in a wall collapse incident near Jabbar Shaheed police patrolling post in Uch Sharif.

According to rescuers, the labourers were busy in work when the under-construction wall of a factory collapsed and they trapped under its debris. The rescuers shifted the injured labourers to the Ahmedpur East THQ Hospital where their condition was stated to be serious.

In another incident, Khalil, 18, was shot at and injured allegedly by his rivals in Basti Kamalwali near Kalanchwala within the limits of Musafirkhana police station, about 30km from here.

Police claim to have registered a case on the complaint of the injured.

MEPCO: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) claims to have topped all other companies in the country in respect of the bills’ recovery to the tune of Rs25. 85 billion in January, showing a recovery percentage of 102.50.

According to a press release issued by PRO Jamshed Niazi, Mepco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mahrullah Yar Bharwana exhorted the staff members to continue this performance to achieve other targets as well.

In another press release, the Mepco claims to have imposed a fine of Rs1.75 million on 65 power thieves during the first fortnight of the current month.
