LIBERTY CHOWK TRAFFIC: The number of accidents around the famous Liberty Chowk in Lahore has increased manifold over the last few years, thanks to reckless drivers, and insufficient number of officials to control the traffic. People travelling to schools, colleges, universities and offices sustain injuries in road accidents. The department concerned should deploy more traffic police officials at busy points, like the Liberty Chowk. Awareness campaigns will also be beneficial in this regard.

ADDITIONAL TROUBLE: Gas loadshedding has added to the troubles of the people in various parts of Karachi. With depleting reserves of natural gas and insufficient discoveries, the gas shortfall for industrial, commercial and domestic consumers continue to grow. The price of gas is also expected to increase. The relevant authorities should come up with a solution.

WATER SHORTAGE: It appears that the unprecedented rains a few months ago were not enough in terms of filling reservoirs even though Hub dam was said to have crossed its capacity. Where did all that water go? Orangi Town, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Liaquatabad are among the areas that have been the hardest hit. Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has miserably failed to maintain water supply. The issue is further coupled with the influence of the tanker mafia on the KWSB management. The relevant authorities surely need to step in.

MOTORWAY: The Lahore-Sialkot Motorway has no fuel stations across its length. If a vehicle runs out of fuel, the driver has to call the given helpline and wait for hours. In September 2020, a harrowing incident took place on the motorway due to the shortage of fuel, but no lessons were learnt. The authorities concerned should allocate space for fuel stations and restrooms on the motorway without further delay.
