LAKKI MARWAT: Unknown armed men believed to be bandits killed a Frontier Corps soldier and injured his friend near Titterkhel village late on Friday night, said police.
They said that FC man Naseem Khan and his friend Hanifullah came under attack when they were going to their village from Barkhi Koroona on a motorcycle.
Injured Hanifullah told Ghaznikhel police that an armed man signalled them to stop near Titterkhel. “We did not stop the bike and in the meantime the two other armed men opened fire on us,” he said.
Police said that both sustained bullet injuries and were taken to the district headquarters hospital, Tajazai, where Naseem was pronounced dead.
They said that they had registered a case against attackers under section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code and began investigations.
QAZI MOHIB HOCKEY: Mardan beat Bannu 2-1 in the final of All-Pakistan Qazi Mohib Memorial Floodlight Hockey Tournament in Bannu on Friday night.
A large number of game lovers, government officials and national and international players watched the final.
Players from across the country participated in the tournament organised by the district administration. Additional deputy commissioner Shabeer Khan and district sports officer Azmat Ali Shah distributed trophies and cash prizes among the players of winner and runner-up teams.
IMMUNISATION WEEK: The Bannu health department is all set to immunise 35,000 children against vaccine preventable diseases during the upcoming World Immunisation Week commencing from April 24, claimed EPI coordinator Dr Ashraf Younas on Saturday.
Briefing mediapersons at his office, he said the immunisation week would be observed in Bannu from April 24 to 30.
He said the department had set up 70 centres across the district to achieve the target of children’s vaccination.
Flanked by primary healthcare coordinator Fareedullah and EPI district supervisor Shafeeq Khan, Dr Younas said the health workers would also inoculate women up to age 49 years against tetanus disease. The health official said that Pakistan was among the countries where children were at risk due to the prevalence of viral diseases.
