KHYBER: The newly-elected members of Jamrud tehsil council have demanded speedy and honourable return of all Tirah displaced families and prompt release of development funds to the local body representatives.

The demand was made at the council’s maiden meeting held in the Jamrud Jirga Hall on Saturday with tehsil chairman Said Nawab in the chair. Women and minority councillors were also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nawab said all the issues facing the residents of Jamrud tehsil would be resolved on priority basis. He invited the recommendations from councillors in running the affairs of the council in a friendly atmosphere.

While terming the holding of local body elections as a historic moment in the merged districts, he said that it was the fruit of tribal areas’ merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Jamrud tehsil council holds maiden session

He promised improving health and education facilities in the tehsil.

The meeting decided to form committees of councillors affiliated with different political parties in order to promptly resolve the local issues.

The meeting also demanded immediate release of tribesmen arrested by the police and security forces during a search operation in Shah Kas area of Jamrud a few days ago.

Meanwhile, newly-elected councillors in Bara and Landi Kotal also held their first meetings and demanded of the local government department to provide them separate offices and open their separate bank accounts for depositing development funds.

FUNERAL PRAYER: Funeral prayer of a slain policeman was held at the Shah Kas Police Training Centre on Saturday.

Officials said constable Israrullah was stabbed to death by unknown attackers in Bar Qambar Khel area of Tirah valley on Friday evening.

Deputy commissioner Shah Saud, district police officer Imran Khan, SP investigations Abdus Salam Khalid, DSP headquarters Nawaz Khan and notables of Jamrud also attended the funeral prayers.

MOSQUE REOPENS: The local authorities have reopened the main Mehraban Kallay mosque after 10 years, allowing a large number of people to offer the Friday prayers. The mosque’s prayer leader also demanded repair of the compound’s building.
