KASUR: A fire broke out at Changa Manga Forest near the Kot Radha Kishan Road on Saturday, spreading to a vast area of the forest.

The fire engulfed about 200 acres land, leaving trees to ashes. According to the locals, the forest officials had started the fire to burn reed plants. They said the officials set reed on fire, which started spreading to the other part of the forest with the direction of wind.

Residents of Changa Manga demanded the forest high-ups to launch an inquiry into the incident.

They alleged that the forest officials were also cutting the trees illegally in connivance with the timber mafia and they had set the forest on fire.

BOOKED: Mustafabad police booked three persons on the charge of roughing up an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) on the premises of the police station for refusing to lodge a case.

The suspects, Arshad, Sarwar and Jamshaid, went to ASI Abdul Razaq at the Mustafabad Police Station and submitted an application for registration of a case. When the ASI refused to lodge a case, the suspects started beating him. However, other policemen rescued the ASI and arrested the suspects.
