Hanif, Miandad praise Pakistan skipper

FAISALABAD, Nov 24: Former batting great Hanif Mohammad on Thursday praised captain Inzamamul Haq on becoming the second Pakistani batsman to score a century in each innings of a Test against England.

“Inzamam is a great batsman. His second hundred in the Faisalabad Test came under pressure which shows his calibre,” said Hanif, the only other Pakistani batsman to have achieved the feat against England.

Meanwhile, Inzamam can look forward to many world batting records, according to Miandad.

“Records are there to be broken and national records don’t matter that much. I am happy for Inzamam to see him go one better than me. It is always a great honour to just represent your country and set world records,” said Miandad.

“I think Inzamam should concentrate on not only making Pakistan into a top outfit but also set new world batting records and join the ranks of the truly great players.”

The Pakistan Cricket Board, in the meantime, acknowledged Inzamam’s feat with a cash award of Rs500,000.—Agencies
