MANSEHRA: The Balakot police on Wednesday announced the cancellation of FIR registered against a resident for posting an ‘offensive’ song on his YouTube channel.

The announcement came as a jirga decided about the withdrawal of the case for the ‘amicable resolution’ of the issue.

District police officer Sajjad Khan, who also attended the jirga, told reporters afterwards that the tribal council attended by members of different local tribes agreed on the withdrawal of FIR against YouTuber Lala Khursheed, so the police would quash it after fulfilling formalities.

He said the jirga warned that the uploading of offensive contents on social media in future would be reported for a crackdown.

Jirga formally requested DPO for purpose

Lala Khursheed was arrested in Balakot on Jan 17 after the people blocked the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road insisting that the 48-year-old was accused of uploading on his YouTube channel a Hindko song, which ‘disgraced’ women members of the local Gujjar tribe.

PROTESTS: The Mansehra District Bar Association has planned street protests against toll collection on the Karakoram Highway in Khatain da Galla area near here.

Association president Bilal Khan told reporters on Wednesday that the National Highway Authority had assured the Peshawar High Court two years ago that it would build overhead bridges and underpasses, widen the KKH, and repair roads in Mansehra city and its suburbs, but to no avail.

He said besides staging protests, the association would also take the NHA to the court on the matter.

Mr Bilal said Mansehra was the only city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the NHA collected toll.

Meanwhile, religious scholars on Wednesday lauded the role of seminaries to increase literacy rate.

“Besides religious education, the seminaries are also imparting contemporary education and thus, playing their due role in national development,” cleric Maulana Qazi Noman Khalil told a seminar here on Wednesday. The event titled ‘role of seminaries in contemporary era’ was organised by the Saibaan Development Organisation.

WALK: Students and teachers of the Hazara University on Tuesday organised a walk to raise anti-narcotics awareness among the people.

Holding banners and placards, the participants marched on campus.

A seminar was also held by the police department in the university, where district police officer Sajjad Khan said the police had launched a crackdown on drug peddlers but it would succeed if the youth, including students, helped them.
