MANSEHRA: A woman was arrested after she threw her two children into the Kunhar River over alleged differences with her husband in Balakot on Monday evening.

“We have arrested a woman who threw her two minor sons into Kunhar River. One of the children has been rescued and search for the other is on,” district police officer Asif Bahadur told reporters.

He said the woman belonging to Kaghan valley was married off with a man in the Havelian area of Abbottabad, adding she threw her sons into the river from the Ayub Bridge situated in the heart of Balakot town.

Eyewitnesses said the children seemed to be four and two years of age, respectively.

“The rescuers have fished out the younger one and search for the other is underway,” Mr Bahadur said.

He said the mother and her rescued son had been admitted to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, where their condition is stated to be out of danger.

Mr Bahadur said the police would investigate the woman’s husband as to why she took such an extreme step.
