TAXILA: A 12-year-old boy drowned while crossing a stream in the jurisdiction of Jand police station on Tuesday.

According to police and hospital sources, Shahzaib Ali, resident of Mohallah Farooqabad, drowned while crossing a stream that passes through a high school and veterinary hospital. Local volunteers retrieved his body and shifted it to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jand police have registered a case. Locals have been asking the district administration and provincial authorities to construct a high-rise bridge over the nullah, so that such incidents could be avoided.

Later, Assistant Commissioner Hassan Nazeer visited the residence of the deceased boy and offered condolences to his family.

He also inspected the place of the incident and assured residents of the administration’s cooperation to avoid such incidents in the future.
